Building your app

Wireframe

A wireframe is a rough sketch of a screen that shows what goes where and what happens next, without colors, images or final design.

Also called wireframes, low-fidelity mockup

Looking this up for a class, a job, or something you want to build? If it is the last one, nommi reads your idea before you spend months on it.

Wireframes are for deciding the steps before anyone spends time on looks. They can be drawn on paper, in a slide or in a design tool. Because they are quick to change, they are a cheap way to show an idea to a possible customer and watch where they get confused.

When this shows up

Example, not a real founder: before building a meal planning app, you sketch four boxes on paper: pick meals, see the shopping list, share it, mark items bought. Showing those sketches to three busy parents tells you which step they actually care about.

What to do next

Sketch only the screens your first test needs, by hand, in under an hour. Show them to one person who has the problem and note where they hesitate.
