Finding customers and growing

Product-market fit

Product-market fit (PMF) is when a clear group of people keep using your product and would miss it if it disappeared, shown by what they do, not what they say.

Also called PMF, product market fit

It shows up as evidence: users coming back without reminders, paying without long persuasion, and telling others. Polite praise, sign-ups that never return, and friends' encouragement are not evidence of it. Fit is reached with a specific group first, not with everyone at once.

When this shows up

Example, not a real founder: your launch post brings a wave of sign-ups and kind comments. A few weeks later, almost nobody is still using the app. The attention was real, but fit was not there yet.

What to do next

Pick one group of users and count how many came back on their own last month. Talk to the ones who did, and ask what they would use if your product vanished.
