Building your app

Transactional email

Transactional email is the automatic one-to-one mail your app sends after a user does something, such as a sign-up confirmation, a password reset or a receipt.

Also called system emails

These emails often fail to arrive because the sender has not proven it may send for your domain. That proof lives in DNS (domain name system) records your email service asks you to add. Without it, inboxes send the mail to spam or drop it.

When this shows up

Example, not a real founder: new users say they never got the confirmation link, so they cannot log in. The app sent from a default address with no domain records, and most messages went to spam.

What to do next

Sign up on your live app with a fresh address at a large email provider. If the email lands in spam or never arrives, add the domain records your email service lists.
