Building your app

Rate limit

A rate limit caps how many requests (calls from your app) a service accepts in a set time, and hitting one often explains errors when your app gets busy.

Also called rate limiting

Services such as databases and email senders set these caps to protect themselves, and free plans usually have lower ones. Once you hit a cap, requests are refused until the time window resets. Your users see failures.

When this shows up

Example, not a real founder: a post about your app gets shared and visitors arrive all at once. Sign-ups start failing. The email service on your free plan refused new sends after its cap, so confirmation emails stopped.

What to do next

List the outside services your app calls and find the stated limit on your current plan for each one. Note which limit you would hit first.
