Building your app

Native app vs web app

A web app runs in a browser from a link, a native app is installed from an app store, and a web app is usually the faster first version.

Also called native app, web app

A web app updates when you deploy (publish the new version), with no store approval. A native app can use more phone features, but every release goes through app store review. Many founders start with a web app that works well on phones, then go native once people are using it.

When this shows up

Example, not a real founder: you want to test whether parents will log their kids' chores. You plan a native app, then realize each fix would wait for store approval. A phone-friendly web app lets you change things daily while you learn.

What to do next

Write down the one phone feature your idea cannot work without. If there is none, build the first version as a web app.
